Bringing Confidence to Every Student
Surrey Dyslexia Support provides full diagnostic dyslexia assessments for children aged 8-15 in Surrey and surrounding areas.
About me
Hello my name is Rebecca Barlow and I run Surrey Dyslexia Support. I am an experienced Level 7 qualified dyslexia assessor and APC holder. I live in Chiddingfold, Surrey (GU8) with my husband and two young children. I carry out full diagnostic assessments for children aged 8-15 in Surrey and the surrounding areas.
I began my teaching career in London and have taught across the primary age range. Working as a busy class teacher, I became aware of some children’s difficulties with literacy, maths and retaining new information. This led me to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Structured Teaching Intervention for Dyslexia and Literacy and a Postgraduate Diploma in Dyslexia and Literacy. These enabled me to learn why some children have particular difficulties with reading, spelling, working memory and processing and how strategies can be applied that transform learning and increase confidence.
I also have an understanding of other learning difficulties so I can offer advice regarding these and signpost parents to organisations where they can receive further support and information.
What I offer
I offer full diagnostic assessments for dyslexia for 8-15 year olds. This is a thorough assessment which will typically test the following skills:
Word Reading, Reading Comprehension, Reading Efficiency and Speed, Spelling, Vocabulary, Reasoning, Memory, Phonological skills, Processing Speed, Writing Skills and Handwriting Speed.
What the assessment package includes:
A pre-assessment discussion over phone/email. I will collect and read through a range of background information regarding the child provided by the parent and school.
The full diagnostic assessment (3 hours approx in length) with additional time required for a break.
A post-assessment email summary will detail the key results and initial thoughts.
The final detailed report which will explain the results in all the areas, the diagnostic decision and strategy and resource suggestions for home and school to support the child going forward.
A post-report discussion (if required) over the phone/email to answer any final questions.
